Additionally, some items carry a unique state sales tax rate in Florida. For example, the retail sales of new mobile homes have a sales tax rate of just 3%, while electricity carries a higher state sales tax rate of 6.95%.

Your sales tax rate will depend on what and where you purchase or sell goods in Florida. Use our calculator to find exactly how much sales tax you owe.

How to calculate Sales Tax in Florida

To calculate the sales tax amount in Florida, you must first determine the sales tax rate of where you buy or sell goods. You can do this by adding any city or county sales tax to the state’s 6% base rate to get your total combined sales tax rate.

For example, if your business operates in Miami, you would add the sales tax rates of Miami-Dade County (1%) to Miami City’s (0%) and Florida state’s base (6%) to get a total combined tax rate of 7% sales tax.

Once you know your tax rate:

Multiply the Purchase Amount by the applicable Sales Tax Rate to get the Sales Tax amount

Add the Sales Tax to the original Purchase Amount to find the Total Cost

You can use these formulas or use our calculator for a faster answer.

Sales Tax = Purchase Amount × Sales Tax Rate
Total Cost = Purchase Amount + Sales Tax
